Buttercream Frosting-a soft frosting that is spread onto cake 

Rolled Fondant Frosting-a pliable sugar dough that is rolled out and laid over cake

Royal Icing-a soft spreadable frosting that dries hard

Gum Paste-a pliable dough that dries hard (like porceline)

Layered Cake-a cake with more than one layer

Tiered Cake-made up of more than one layered cake, usually different sizes.  Each tier of cake is made up of 1-3 layers of cake.
